Hello friend,
How are you? I am doing good. I am sure you are good too.
It is a thundering dark cloudy afternoon here in Banglore, seems heavy rain is approaching us. How about your place? I love this type of atmosphere, I need one cup of Tea and some soulful music.
Anyways, let’s jump into the meat of the letter, this week is special to me because we get to see the rare phenomenon of a lifetime. Yes, I am obsessed with Space Exploration. I and Abhi (My husband) both love to explore night sky we go to the terrace and observe the night sky and different constellation. Okay, so why this week is special? you would have already guessed it by now, NEOWISE Comet C/2020 F3. I have been trying hard to see this beautiful tail comet with the naked eye.
In Bangalore, it’s mostly cloudy during the visible window of the NEOWISE comet, but I make sure to see the picture taken by people around the world every day if not in reality. So far I have loved all the pictures but let me show you the best of all and my favorites.
The purple ribbon-like structure to the left is STEVE, an aurora-related phenomenon discovered with the help of citizen scientists working with the Aurorasaurus project. The bright streak near the top of the image is a meteor. You can spot NEOWISE in Aurora Dancing lights.
Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) was captured rising over Stonehenge in the UK by Declan Deval
NEOWISE’s blue-glowing ion tail points straight up, away from the rising Sun, while the Sun-reflecting dust tail trails off toward the right. Moonlit dirt roadshows the path ahead, while the Śnieznik Mountains are visible on the horizon.
From low Earth orbit, it also rises before the Sun, captured above the approaching glow along the eastern horizon in this snapshot from the International Space Station on July 5. Venus, now Earth’s morning star is the brilliant celestial beacon on the right in the field of view.
I vividly remember watching one such comet back in 1997, called Hale Bobb. It had a bright white long tail and it is considered as a great comet. NEOWISE is nowhere near as bright as Hale-Bopp was. Unlike Hale-Bopp, NEOWISE will never be easily visible to the eye. Unfortunately, it has zero visibility in Bangalore :(. Anyhow, I am not disappointed because I have seen a Great comet and it was beautiful.
My Favourite Things this Week
PodCast : Tim Ferris with Hugh JackMan
I am obsessed with X-men and the only reason I listened to this podcast was it. But I realize that Hugh is very different then I imagined. He is a brilliant and Soft-spoken person. In this interview, Hugh talks about the Best Decisions he has made, Daily Routines like he and his wife read a book to each other every morning, The 85% Rule, Favorite Exercises, Mind Training, and more. I am definitely gonna try Book reading with Abhi.

Video : The Super Mario Effect – Tricking Your Brain into Learning More | Mark Rober | TEDxPenn
Mark describes how the data-backed mindset for life gamification has stuck with him along his journey, and how it impacts the ways he helps (or tricks) his viewers into learning science, engineering, and design. He explains this by taking a simple example of how we as Mario fight with bowser to save Princess Peach. We take every failure as a lesson and every time we make little more progress and finally save Princess Peach.
So the Super Mario Effect is focusing on the princess and not on the Pits, to stick with a task and learn more.
