Top Things to do in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands | Ultimate Travel Guide

Sharing my Top 5 experiences that you must do in Port Blair. Be it a couple’s vacation or a vacation with family and friends, Andaman and Nicobar Islands have plenty of things to offer for every group. You will find plenty of information on the tour guides, but I have some of my personally curated hidden gems for you to explore in Port Blair. From watching Bioluminescence to visiting Japanese bunkers, Port Blair has a lot to offer.

Night Kayaking to witness the Bioluminescence

Are you ready for this “Life of Pi” moment? where you can see this beautiful blue light underneath the water?

Have a “Lipe of Pi” Moment

One of the most surreal experiences of my life was seeing bioluminescence. It makes you feel you’re in the most beautiful dream with the only difference in you being awake and capturing memories of a lifetime to share with others. Imagine the night sky – dark and silent. Now imagine stars and clusters of stars below your feet in the water. This is exactly what I experienced and it was MAGICAL! We were kayaking in the backwaters surrounded by dense mangroves. Our guide Tanaz Noble, who is also fond of astronomy created the experience even more interesting by sharing interesting astronomical facts.

History

Port Blair holds a lot of Indian history which you can learn by visiting museums and cellular Jail. Cellular Jail, also known as “Kala Pani” (Lit. “Black Water”) was a colonial prison used by the British government to exile political prisoners to a remote land.

Ross Island was occupied by the Japanese and British armies in different time periods as it makes the best choice for Naval operations. On this island, you will see a Japanese bunker, powerhouse, lighthouse, Bakery from the British era, and ruins of a bar and restaurant for officers.

You will also find free-roaming spotted deer and peacocks on the island which is a beautiful sight to watch.

P.S. Do not confuse this island with North Andaman’s Ross and Smith Island (Twin Island).

North Bay

North Bay offers water sports activities like scuba diving, sea walking, glass-bottom ship, etc. It also has Food shacks to relish some best Bengali and Andamanese food. I am a foodie myself and I love to travel for food Andaman is the place where I had my first CRAB :P. Follow more about my food journey here.

If you are planning to go scuba diving or snorkeling, you can definitely opt out of the glass bottom Dolphin ship. The experience compared to what they charge is not satisfying. And you will see more ocean life during underwater activities, but if you have kids then you should opt for Glass Bottom Boat. Kids will enjoy looking at the corals, Starfish, and colorful fishes. We opted for this experience for our daughter and she enjoyed it.

Chidiya Tapu

This Beach is famous for its beautiful sunset. The serenity and calmness on the beach give peace of mind. And of course, you will see lots of local birds. If you are that person who loves bird watching like me :). I have to suggest you visit this place called Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary in Gujarat, where you will see thousands if not millions of Flamingoes and other migratory birds coming from all around the world.

Summing up this post with this 15-second short clip on my IG handle. Stay tuned for the next post on Havelock Island’s best places for Food and Scuba experiences.
