Craving for some Restaurant Style Biryani?? You have come to the right place. Paneer Biryani is an easy peasy and fun recipe to make with family during this time of lockdown and social distancing. The recipe requires very common ingredients available in our kitchen. Now put on some good music and let’s jump into the recipe.
Serves ~ 4 persons
Preparing Time ~ 30 minutes
Cooking Time ~ 40 minutes
Follow the steps as given below to manage the cooking and preparation time.
Step 1 – Start with Rice
Ingredients For Making Rice
- 2 Cups of Rice (Any rice, Basmati works the Best!)
- 2 Tsp Ghee
- 1 Cardomom
- 3 Cloves
- 1 Star Anis
- Chopped Coriander
- 1 Lemon wedge
- 2-3 inch long cinnamon
- Salt
- 5-6 Glass of Water of Course ๐
Preparing Rice
Boil the water and throw everything in. Cook for about 20-30 minutes according to your rice. While rice is cooking go to step 2. Once cooked to perfection drain it in a colander. ๐
Step 2 – Fry Your Paneer and Onions
Ingredients for frying Paneer and Onions
- Paneer 400gms of Paneer
- Oil
- Bowl of Water
- Salt
- 1 large Onion thin sliced
Preparing Paneer and Onion
First of all salt our sliced onions and keep it in a bowl, meanwhile take oil in a pan for deep frying. Once the oil is hot squeeze the sliced onions to remove the water and put them in oil for deep fry at medium flame. Fry until golden brown and take it out and spread it very well on a paper towel.
Keep it far fay away from you so that you don’t start munching on it. ๐
Cut Paneer into small cubes of your choice size and deep fry it in the same oil. Dunk all the fried paneer in the salted water bowl to soak it in salted water and this way Paneer becomes the food of Heaven. Trust me on this!!
I am sure you will munch 100 gms of fried Paneer don’t worry we have enough.
This was easy peasy, isn’t it? We have already come to the last item that is the gravy which is waaaaay easy. Stick with me you are doing good.
Step 3 – Groov with Gravy!
Ingredients for gravy
- 3 medium-sized tomatoes roughly chopped
- 2-inch long Ginger roughly diced
- 2 medium-size Onions roughly diced
- 4-5 cloves of Garlic roughly diced
- 3-4 Tbsp Oil
- 2-3 Tbsp Butter
- 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1/2 Tsp Tumeric powder
- 1 Tsp Garam Masala
- 3-4 Tbsp Coriander Powder
- 2-3 Tbsp Red chili Powder
- 1 Tsp Fennel seeds (Optional)
- Salt to Taste
Preparing Gravy
Put oil and butter in a pan, once its hot temper cumin seeds and add onions, tomatoes, ginger, and garlic. Also add salt as per your taste, cover it and let it cook for about 5 minutes on medium flame. Add the spices and 2 cups of water. let it cook for 5- 10 min till all spices get well incorporated. Turn off the flame and let it cool down and then blend it and make gravy out of it.
Add fried paneer which we have soaked in salted water in this gravy. Bingo! Everything is ready. Its time to mix it.
Take a big vessel and start layering, gravy goes first then rice and then gravy and some fried onions and repeat.
Garnish it with fried onion and coriander and serve it with a bowl of cold curd with a sprinkle of chili powder and fried onion.
